Chromosomal Mutations and wrap up

After going through different types of point mutations and Frameshift mutations last week, today we wrapped up mutations with larger scale mutations.
here were the notes from today

Here is an animation of a couple different forms of these

The rest of the period you worked through a study guide of this chapter.  Tomorrow we will review formally, I have set up the study island review if you want to start working through it tonight.

When you click on the assignment make sure you click on BOTH DNA & Genetics AND Mutations & Genetic variability to study.

DQQ translation and mutations

Today we started class with a podcast that I really liked that explained mutations.  I have told you guys before that while it is nice you are part of a generation that has access to SOOOOOO much information all the time, it can be frustrating to weed through it all and know what is actually ACCURATE.  I always like the Bozeman biology channel and the Khan academy videos when it comes to proper detailed descriptions of concepts.

This was the wrap up video I had you watch before your quiz:

We then took our Daily question quiz

That pretty much took the rest of the period.  I also mentioned how proud of you guys I am.  This is a CHALLENGING class that moves very fast but you guys are holding strong!!  I have seen you all grow this year as students and learners and am confident it will pay off on the keystone exam but MORE important, in your LIVES :)

Mutations wrap up

Today's daily questions were again brought to you by Study Island!! They focused more on a wrap up of transcription/translation than on the mutations we have been talking about:

Here are all the notes on Mutations:
For more information about these chromosomal mutations check out the following youtube clip!!

Mutations Continued

We moved into frameshift mutations as well today with the following daily questions brought to you by study island!!
we wrote a little about how proteins are packaged up:

***The last couple slides you did not write down, they were just a way to wrap up transcription and translation.  we had a little time left so i decided to show you a crash course and  part of the national geographic documentary about hybrid organisms.  Many of you have been coming up with some GREAT questions about speciation/ genetics/ etc and this answered a couple of them!!

Mutations intro

Tuesday March 25th we went through the following daily questions (i have included the screencast and answers from bio who did it today)

and we went through some intro notes on how proteins are packages/ when genes are expressed and a little intro to mutations:

TRANSLATION

Friday we put off our daily question quiz since i left my pc at home.  During that time we finished up translation and went through the following daily question.

a screencast of our discussion that went along with it:
we continued through transcription using our models.  i have included ALL notes about translation for you here:

we used our models to get transcription started.

TODAY we took out daily question quiz and then went into the following daily question which both wraps up translation AND leads us into the next section which is mutations:
