Tuesday September 1st - More on Characteristics of Life

Today you started RIGHT into your daily questions.  These first couple weeks will give you a good look at how the year will go and I am proud of how quick you are catching on to the "Routine" of things in here!!

Announcements:  Looks like we will have our first Daily Question quiz on TUESDAY instead of this Thursday.  Thursday looks to be a little chaotic with it being picture day and an afternoon pep assembly.

DURING the discussion about the second question - I "Showed" you what this means by "SPECIALIZED cells"

All multicellular organisms are made up of specialized cells that form specialized tissue which form a specialized organ etc. etc.

The example I gave is with a Sheep Brain and a kidney:

The brain is an Organ made up of different types of tissues which are made up of different types of cells.  If I were to cut a slice of this brain, stain it, and put it under the microscope the cells would look something similar to this:

If we look at this compared to a KIDNEY - we would see that while they are both organs, made up of tissues, made up of cells...... The CELLS would look much different because they perform DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS.

FORM FITS FUNCTION!!!  This is an important part of understanding biology!!

If I was to look at KIDNEY tissue under the microscope, the cells would look MUCH different than those of the brain.
