Study Island and CDT data

Yesterday you guys took a Study Island midterm review exam.  When you finished the test - not only did it give you your total score, but how you scored in specific areas. (see the sample scoring below)

Today I encouraged you to look at the areas where you scored the lowest and take classtime today going through those sections either on study island or through your midterm study guide.

On study Island if you click on the top tab labeled "Science" and then choose biology keystone exam prep you can then chose the topics you struggled in and go through as many sample questions as you can.  The midterm is over any content in areas labeled "Cells and Cell processes"   I starred the topics the person above should focus on.

I also gave everyone their first two CDT scores to see how they are progressing.  We will take the CDT again on the day you have extended time for the midterm.  There will be a scale that corresponds with these scores. Check out this sample students and how i will base the scale.

We started with the following daily questions:
When we went through these questions i encouraged you to use the test taking strategies we have talked about.  FIRST thing you should do when reading a question is think about all the things you KNOW about the concepts being questioned.  In this case I had you make a list of all the things you knew about aerobic respiration (the list in the top right hand corner) then all you knew about bacteria (the list in the top left hand corner)  After creating these lists the answers came pretty easy!!!  Keep on using this strategy when answering daily questions or test questions.
Then we finished up with the aerobic processes and anaerobic respiration:
We also went through this online animation of cellular respiration:

We'll review for your midterm tomorrow and Thursday
MIDTERM ON FRIDAY!!!!!

Cellular Respiration Intro

Friday we had our daily question quiz and watched the following crash course as an introduction to the next section.
We then listened to the following podcast about how much oxygen the average person breathes in a day.

This led you guys to come up with the question "So basically this is saying that we are extremely inefficient"  You BET ya!!!  But we will talk more about how you can increase the amount of Oxygen that you actually can absorb in any given breath.

You started right into notes on Friday and continued with them today.
I didn't have you write out all of these formulas but pointed out all of the different enzymes involved in this ONE biochemical pathway.

We talked about the different products that are produced by fermentation and then you watched the following clip about endurance athletes and how they build up their VO2 max.

A little bit of Thanksgiving fun!!

Today you guys walked in to my hand Turkey's giving thanks for all my classes!

You then had a couple options today.  There was an extra credit assignment available to work on about the myth of tryptophan.  You also had time to work on the into book work to bioenergetics.  Or you could do all of the above AND draw hand turkeys. I guess it doesn't matter HOW old you are.... get the chance to color hand turkeys on construction paper NEVER gets old :)

I then showed you guys the Hoops and Yoyo Thanksgiving card and wished you a nice relaxing Thanksgiving!!
